United Church of Christ - Northeast Wisconsin Association

Hands of Christ

Hands of Christ Deaf Ministry was begun in 1997. It serves people from the area surrounding Lake Winnebago--from Green Bay in the north to Appleton and Oshkosh

on the west to Fond du Lac on the south.

Hands of Christ Deaf Ministry worships in various congregations throughout the year. Often, the pastor and Hands of Christ Deaf Choir lead worship in a hearing congregation. The pastor preaches in sign language and spoken English, the choir signs two or three anthems, and the hearing congregation experiences God's word in a new way. In addition, Hands of Christ Deaf Ministry offers pastoral care, fellowship events, Christian Education, and more.

The Reverend Gisele Berninghaus is the pastor of Hands of Christ Deaf Ministry. She has been an ordained pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) since 1986. By the time Gisele was twelve years old, she knew enough sign language to assist in teaching Sunday School and sign hymns in church. She continues to broaden and deepen her signing abilities.

The Hands of Christ Deaf Ministry is an ecumenical ministry, serving people from a number of Christian traditions. It is supported with prayers and finances by:
