What is Scripture, Really?

Thursday, May 22, 2008, 7:00-8:30

Presented by the Mission House Center of Lakeland College

Rev. Dr. Karl A. Kuhn, Lecturer

One of the more fundamental issues on which Christians disagree is the nature of Scripture.  Is it God's Word, scripted by God into a flawless and unified declaration of God’s character and will?  Or is the Bible simply human testimony to various experiences of God, the pious reflections of Jewish and Christian believers gathered over the centuries?

Or is Scripture something else?

Drawing on material from his recent book, Having Words with God: The Bible as Conversation, Dr. Kuhn reviews some of the different views of Scripture held by Christians, and presents an understanding of Scripture as both embodying and inviting a sacred conversation between God and believers, and among believers about God.

Rev. Dr. Karl Kuhn is Associate Professor of Religion at Lakeland College where he has served since the Fall of 1999.  His first book, Having Words with God: The Bible as Conversation, is published by Fortress Press and is due out April, 2008.

The event will be held in the David and Valerie Black Room of the Laun Center at Lakeland College. No pre-registration is necessary. For more information or directions, please contact Colleen Darling at 920-565-1538.
